A man has been arrested on charge of threatening people for “illegal benefits” by impersonating the Inspector General of Police using the police chief’s name and photos on caller ID apps.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested the man upon receiving complaints on Monday night.
The arrestee is identified as Arif Mainuddin (43) completed his graduation in Computer Science and Engineering. He started the scam after he lost his job at a private bank.
Imam Hossain, additional deputy inspector general of CID, revealed the news at a press briefing at its headquarters on Tuesday.
He was involved in fraudulent activities under the guise of a matchmaker’s office in Dhaka’s Zigatola.
A case was filed with Hazaribagh Police Station under Digital Security Act in this regard, he said.
